According to a report from AS this evening, La Liga giants Barcelona will focus their attentions on PSG star Angel Di Maria if they can’t clinch a deal for Borussia Dortmund youngster Ousmane Dembele over the coming weeks.
Following the world-record departure of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain lastweek, Barca are reported to have drawn up a list of targets to replace the Brazilian at the Camp Nou.
At the top of this list are Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and Dortmund starlet Dembele.
20-year-old Dembele enjoyed a stellar first season at the Westfalen stadion, cementing himself, alongside French teammate Kylian Mbappe, as one of world football’s most coveted young stars.
Thomas Tuchel’s side last summer from Rennes, Dembele was seen as araw talent who had a long way to go before proving himself as a genuine star.
However, a return of 10 goals and a staggering 21 assists in his debut campaign has since left Europe’s top sides scrambling for the services of the wing wizard, with Barca at the front of the queue.
However, with Dortmund currently playing hardaball in negotiations with the Blaugrana, the Spanish side have identified PSG winger Angel Di Maria as an ideal second option.
Reports last week claimed that Barca have already contacted the Argentinian to gauge his interest in a move to Catalunya, and were encouraged by his response.
In addition, Di Maria is a long-term international teammate and friend of star man Lionel Messi, with the Barcano.10 keen to join forces with his fellow Argentinian at club level.
However, it remains to be seen how receptive the Nou Camp faithful would be to Di Maria arriving at the club, with the 29-year-old having lined out for fierce rivals Real Madrid from 2010-2014.
